the foul bus project
a while ago i made a drawing while being bored at work. someone pointed out to me that they wanted to see more of these figures, so i started making up a story in my head about who these guys were. a year passed and the idea developed into a script, combining a few ideas i had had for a long time and some new ideas as well. it all cumulated into the story i’m going to tell in this animated short – the story of the foul bus.
the main character (derived from the original drawing) is a lonely guy whose arms, sadly, are so short they are almost useless. he has a really hard time making friends, but he’s bent on succeeding. one day at the bus stop something terrible is about to happen – a crazy, man-eating bus is terrorizing the neighbourhood and our protagonist suddenly finds himself on a quest to stop the crazy vehicle from ridding the entire city from it’s inhabitants.
i asked my very talented brother to come up with a few sketches for some of the supporting characters in the story, among them a cyclist. there’s also the old man (left), the blonde and her little dog (who turns out to be quite the little helper) and, of course, the bird.
i’m trying to raise money, from both sponsors and government art funds, to make the process more rewarding economically (i have a part-time job that isn’t the most lucrative in the world), but until that lucky day that someone wants to help out i’m left completely on my own doing everything myself – from storyboards to backgrounds to editing and maybe even sound and music.
judging from the time it took to get where i am today, in the process of actually animating and painting the film, i can but guess that i’ll be done in four or five years time… but i’ve totally made up my mind and i am going to get it made, with or without help. every day is progress.
i’ll keep posting news, teasing you to come back here, so stay tuned please.
